What makes Christie Lea Gaetz?
Posted by EMMA STEVENS
Christie Lea Gaetz grew up in southern Alberta. She was drawn to the mountains in 2010 and currently lives and works in Fernie, BC. She spends most of her time outdoors; mountain biking, skiing, hiking and at the river. It is in nature where she finds most of her inspiration.
She is also inspired by the integration of nature and mathematics, sacred geometry, and outer space, from the micro to the macro.
She is a self-taught artist, mainly working with acrylics and canvas. She began as a hobby artist in 2012. As her style began to take shape and interest in her work increased, she set about displaying her work in local cafes and vending at the Sunday Markets.
She continues to challenge herself as an artist, exploring new techniques and adding more detail. Her paintings lay at the intersection between landscape and abstraction. Her work is often described as calming, unique, effective and provocative.
Christie hopes that her work will encourage people to slow down and take the time to connect with nature, observe the night sky and think about the deeper meaning of life. From atoms to infinity and everything in between.
In the future, she wishes to create more series, experiment with light and perspective and commit more time to painting overall.
