“Fast Fashion is not acceptable?”

Western consumers have grown accustomed to extremely low clothing prices, leading to a skewed understanding of the manufacturing process and the number of people involved before the items reach them.

Overconsumption is a harmful effect of fast fashion, driven by consumers' cravings for the latest items. This trend, characterized by rapid style turnover, leads many to disregard the short lifespan of their clothing, seeing it as a minor issue in their pursuit of new trends.

As a result, it’s not surprising that, on average, up to 40% of our clothing remains unworn and is discarded after about three years. This waste contributes significantly to landfills, occupying approximately 5% of their total space.

Fast fashion focuses on minimizing production costs to boost profit margins. This enables companies to sell clothing at lower prices, attracting more customers. However, this profit-driven strategy often comes at the expense of local workers and the environment.

The fast fashion industry is fraught with ethical issues, including human rights violations and poor working conditions. This industry often takes advantage of workers in developing countries by paying them inadequate wages and subjecting them to unsafe working conditions.

Shockingly, child labour remains a significant issue, with over 250 million children involved in the global textile and clothing industry. These children endure long hours and are often exposed to harmful substances.

Furthermore, dangerous working conditions in non-compliant fashion factories pose serious risks to workers' safety and well-being, making them vulnerable to accidents and even death. Is it worth it?

It is accessible and empowering to start a journey toward a more proactive and responsible approach to sustainable fashion. Taking even small steps can catalyze positive change in the fashion industry, contributing to a greener and more ethical future.

The fast-fashion industry urgently needs to adopt more ethical practices to safeguard human rights and the environment. By asking ourselves a few simple questions before purchasing, we can significantly impact our health and the planet.
