"The Pros And Cons Of Tencel"

I have chosen to use Tencel fabric, which is man-made and originates from trees—primarily birch, beech, spruce, and eucalyptus—that are then manufactured into fibre. It is a fantastic eco-friendly fabric made from wood pulp cellulose fibres. 

It is durable enough for everyday use, making it a long-lasting investment in stylish and sustainable clothing. It delivers quality, performance, and versatility while also being great for the environment. Ninety-nine percent of the chemicals and solvents used to break down the wood pulp are recovered and recycled. 

Tencel fabrics are a fantastic eco-friendly option for my designs. Biodegradable and compostable, the Tencel fibres can fully revert back to nature, not causing further waste. They are super soft, breathable, wick away moisture, durable, and wash amazing—perfect for my style.

Benefits for the environment…

• It requires a lot less dye than cotton. 

• When produced, it is pure white, so no bleaching is necessary, and undyed is always an option.

• A closed-loop solvent system means almost no solvent is dumped into the ecosystem. Instead, it is recycled repeatedly to produce new fibres and minimize harmful waste.

• It recycles the process water.

• In production, TENCEL requires less energy and water than conventional cotton.

• Eucalyptus trees grow quickly without pesticides, fertilizers, or irrigation and are 100% biodegradable.

• However, the technology used in processing makes the fabric cost more to produce

There is little reason Tencel shouldn't replace other fabrics in manufacturing, given its versatility, durability, soft and lustrous feel, and lighter carbon footprint.
