Twenty Twenty: The Roller Coaster Year
Posted by EMMA STEVENS
So that was 2020!!! And what a year that was. We all thought it couldn't go fast enough and then bang it's done just like that. It was good, it was bad, it was beautiful and it was pretty ugly in parts but we made it and I hope we learned something... anything.
How was your year? Are you happy with how you dealt with living through a pandemic?
Looking back I have learned so much and grown a lot as a person and as a business owner. I was super frustrated to be honest that I couldn't do all the fun shows that I had planned but happy that I managed to keep positive with life, love and work. I managed to hold it all together (just haha), I kept working out everyday, eating well, listening to Oprah (my hero haha) and kept growing the business.
I have found it super fascinating how literally the whole world is going through the same issue but everyone is dealing with it so differently. We have all lost and gained such different things, but it has also bought people closer together and taught us to look closer inside ourselves and to appreciate the little things.
I hope you have managed to stay positive, you have been kind and in return the world has been kind to you.
I started 2020 like lots of people believing that 2020 was going to be my year. I was pumped, I was focused this was the year for Untamed. The rest of the year was a roller coaster of emotions, what am I doing, how am I going to do this, how am I going to pay the bills, I am going to murder my boyfriend, this is fantastic, I got this and I love my job!
The main thing I have learned this year is to stay positive, keep looking forward and you will find opportunity.
I met Sam from How Original at the Invermere Farmers Market and we joined her beautiful artwork with my flattering designs and made some fun pieces together which was a great success. Then, we got together with 3 other talented artisans and made a plan for the holiday season and that's how the baker street holiday pop up shop was formed.
We found the perfect location in Cranbrook and it was an amazing 6 weeks working with such incredible and talented ladies. A fantastic thing that came out of the pandemic is that people have become aware of the need and desire to shop local. The support in the local area has been incredible and we all feel very lucky to have had this opportunity.
So as 2020 rolls to an end I feel glad that the year is up but I also appreciate everything that I have learned from the year. Life throws things at you and you can't let it get you down for too long, because it will keep you down. You have to stay positive, keep trying and good things will happen.
I thought my business was going to be a big flop this year and it actually has been incredible and I feel so lucky with the support I have received. I have learned so much about myself and how I deal with issues that are out of my control and if I stay looking in the right direction things will happen.
2021, I have no idea what you will be like, but I am open and willing to adapt to whatever you throw at me. I am so excited with the direction my business is going in and I am pumped to see what happens.
I got this, you got this. Stay safe, stay happy and be kind.
