Ali designed four fabulous pieces of art with a specific story in mind, all while adhering to my strict design measurements, colour scheme, the Untamed brand and the Wildsight message. Not easy, but I think she nailed it.

We are committed to highlighting and raising awareness for the essential conservation work of Wildsight, an organization focused on protecting wildlife and natural areas within the Kootenay-Columbia region. Their vital programs include wildlife monitoring, habitat restoration projects, and educational outreach designed to inspire future environmental stewards.

By investing in a beautiful, locally created piece of wearable art, you are also supporting and learning about the long-term health and vitality of the Kootenay environment.

The Art And The Meaning

Art 1. The Canopy Keeper

From the forest floor, a profound sense of smallness and connection takes hold. The ancient cottonwoods, vital for conservation, stand as guardians of biodiversity. These trees are a biological treasure house, providing unique and stable habitats crucial for the survival of countless species, including birds, mammals, and insects. The ancient stands at Morrissey, beside the Elk River, are home to some of the oldest cottonwoods on the planet, supporting a vast array of plant and animal life.

This piece of art is available on the Ego (Art strip on the back), The Mood (Art on the Sleeve) and the Spirit (Art in the middle).

Art 2. The Fading Tracks

The plight of the wolverine, a species critically dependent on undisturbed wilderness and a deep snow pack at tree line, serves as a stark reminder of the delicate balance within our ecosystems. Their tracks, increasingly scarce, symbolize the silent disappearance of a creature struggling to adapt to encroaching human activity and a changing climate. The Southern Rocky and Columbia mountains remain a stronghold for these wide ranging wonders.

This piece of art is available on the Ego (Art on the back), The Mood (Art on the Sleeve) and the Spirit (Art in the middle).

Art 3. The Sound Before Sight

The pileated woodpecker, North America's largest woodpecker, indicates forest health. Declining due to deforestation, their population rebounded since the 1970s, thanks to protected forests and better management, leaving more snags (dead trees). These birds are often heard before their scarlet crests are seen, foraging for insects or defending territory. Their large rectangular holes are reused by other wildlife. An abundance of snags, found in intact, mature forests, supports greater biodiversity and resilience to climate change, helping iconic species thrive and inspiring care for our shared home. .

This piece of art is available on the Ego (Art strip on the back) and The Mood (Art on the Sleeve).

Art 4. The Living Line

Life, in its breathtaking complexity and boundless variety, thrives in an incredible diversity of environments, spanning the vast spectrum from the deepest, most secluded streambeds to the highest, most exposed mountaintops. The interwoven micro-habitats of life in the mountains serve as powerful and vivid illustrations of both evolutionary genius and profound ecological interdependence, binding together all living things.

This piece of art is available on The Mood (Art on the Sleeve), the Spirit (Art in the middle) and the NEW Animal (full Art on the back).

"Many of these iconic animals are considered ‘threatened’, ‘of special concern’ or ‘endangered’ in our conservation nomenclature. They are facing the combined threats of climate change and habitat loss resulting from human impacts.

We can protect and connect more of the space these awe-inspiring animals need to survive and thrive. Our governments have committed to protecting 30% of the lands and waters in British Columbia by 2030.

Currently, in our region, we’re just above halfway to that goal, and we only have a few years to reach the agreed-upon minimum level necessary for these idons' long-term survival. We can all work together to achieve this inspiring goal to make space for nature in our shared home." Casey Brennan, Wildsight

Wildsight Is The Message

"I knew I wanted to help promote their message when I read this on the Wildsight website: 'We strive to inspire a conservation ethic in our children and communities, so that the future leaders of tomorrow will be equipped to deal with the challenges of sustainability'." Emma, Untamed
