"A carefree life of beaches and crop tops”

The fashion design course was one of the hardest things I have done. I worked six, sometimes 6.5, days a week, 10-18 hours daily. I woke up with a Red Bull and went to bed exhausted. It was intense, and the learning curve was steep.

I was the only person in my class with no sewing experience; most of my peers had been sewing since they were young. However, I was eager and excited to learn. I have always believed I can achieve anything if I put my mind to it. While I may not be the most intelligent person in the room, I can learn anything with hard work and determination.

With a few more grey hairs and stubborn wrinkles, I graduated from fashion school and moved to Fernie, B.C, to start a business. Easy right? Start a fashion business in a small mountain town in British Columbia?

Fernie, BC, is an obvious place for fashion. New York, London, Millan, and Fernie—that's how it goes, right? Haha. I went to fashion school without sewing experience and passed with flying colours. Can I build a business with no business experience?

My clothing style has evolved over the years due to fashion, age, and location, but it has maintained a consistent vibe. I've always loved colours and fun prints and enjoyed buying unique pieces that make me look and feel good.

During my twenties, I spent most of my time on beaches around the world wearing shorts and bikinis. I was also the queen of baggy pants and short tops for most of the 1990s and early 2000s.

When I moved to Canada, I found clothes boring, especially in the winter. I always complained because I wanted simple, flattering, and unique dresses and tops to wear with tights and boots, but I could never find anything.

I lived out of a backpack for years, so I have always loved multi-purpose and super-versatile clothes that work for different seasons and occasions. I have also always loved a good-quality hoodie with a good fit, long body and sleeves, and a well-shaped hood. But why were they so hard to find?

Are you on the right track to achieving your dreams? Remember, taking small steps in the right direction is better than taking none and have fun.
